History
The initial portion of land where Fry Farms originated was homesteaded by William T. Hunter on May 1, 1839. Clarence and Susan Fry eventually purchased this section of land located in Sturgis, Michigan on February 25, 1920. Clarence was a plumber from Gary, Indiana who decided to move to the area and maintain a small farm. Clarence expanded his operation on May 10, 1934 when he purchased a neighboring farm. At this point, Fry Farms consisted of less than 75 tillable acres which were used to raise a variety of farm animals including sheep, pigs, chickens, and horses.

Several years later, beef cattle were introduced to the farm by ten-year-old Jim Fry. The year was 1963 and Jim Fry had bought an Angus heifer, named Queen, to raise as a 4-H project. This event marked the beginning of a lifelong passion to raise quality livestock.

Over 50 years later, Jim Fry and his family are still passionate about raising livestock and the farm has grown to satisfy more customers. Fry Farms now consists of over 40 breeding females as well as a spacious feed area which is used to grow the animals to an appropriate market weight. The family is currently farming over 150 acres of a variety of crops to support the animals. Although the size and equipment have changed with time, Fry Farms’ dedication to raise quality livestock remains the same.
